Vega, a journalist by trade and a cynic for life, came up with a brilliant pitch for a series of articles. Recount the tales of lesbian and gay couples to assure the heterosexual population that the institution of marriage isn’t at risk now that gay marriage is legal. Her editor loved the idea. Vega loved the notion of a long-term assignment that paid regularly. What she didn’t realize until too late was that she’d have to sit through every one of these often banal, regularly nauseating love stories without wanting to hurl herself off the nearest cliff. So much for her brilliant idea.
By the time she arrives in Seattle, she’s already had enough of interviewing couples, but she’s determined to see it through. After all, if the readers of a national newspaper can recognize a love story as a love story, regardless of sexuality, she might change a few minds out there. Helping to temper the discontent is new friend, Iris, who seems to know everyone’s story and, more importantly, shares Vega’s take on them. As the interviews continue and her friendship with Iris grows, Vega wonders if her lifelong cynical attitude toward love might be softening a bit.

Vega, a journalist/writer interviewing couples who are in long term relationships. She has a workaholic lifestyle and never found the balance between work and girlfriends. She never found her long term partner. Moving temporarily to Seattle was a life changing decision. The town and the people drawn her into the community. Interviewing from a bar makes it easy for Vega to connect with the women around her. There was a lot of miscommunication and many rumors that led to assumptions. This almost broke a relationship with a witty woman. I love that there are so many various characters with whom I felt a real connection. Lane and Iris intrigued me from the beginning and I was dying to know the secret between them. I loved how the relationship between Vega, Iris and Lane developed throughout the story. At first I was hesitant because I loved all the authors previous books so much and I knew this book would not be a "normal" romance. But boy, am I glad that I did give it a try. It's a beautiful story with characters who have depth and are awesome to hang around with. It was so fun to read about all the couples lovestories. Lynn is an excellent writer and knows how to get the most out of a story. The lovestory is smashing and romantic. The way the story ended couldn't have been more perfect. Well done!Product details

Clichéd Love A Satirical Romance edition by Lynn Galli Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Another fun read from one of my favorite authors! Has a little bit of everything with good dialogue and humor.
I imagine it is difficult writing about a writer researching all the romantic cliches in romance. Lynn pulled it off with wit and a very sarcastic keystroke all while giving us a romance. Mind blown.
I recommend this story for smartass people who are kinda sick of the tropes. There is no end to the cliche.
I really loved the tongue in cheek catalog of lesbian romance types - the only reason it did not earn 5 stars with me was that its romance storyline fell victim to the fun, the main characters were left kinda lifeless.
Very original. So funny. Sexy scenes. It's a definite must read. There's nothing like it and just reading it you can, if you read lesbian novels, actually pick out certain books that they're talking about throughout the book when she's interviewing people. It's just really funny and really well-written and it just hits the nail on the head. Plus it has the same formula of sexy scenes and falling in love. Though I do prefer my books to have the Fantasy Girls rather than the normal types. And I prefer the cheesy love at first sight basically the interviews there are writing about in the book are the stories I prefer. But this is a definite must read.
Lynn Galli has done it again! I loved her cynical character, writer, Vega and the 'best-of-best-friends' ex-cop/P.I. Iris. All the characters, even secondary and beyond were full and 'realistic'. It may be even her most romantic as it captivates you, encourages you to root for Vega and Iris. What's more romantic than making a believer out of a cynic? So, the story goes, Vega convinces her paper to run articles about how lesbian couples met, their 'love-stories' if you will. It becomes a gay verses straight stories, which is which. Her most recent stop is Seattle, Washington. There she sets up shop at a local lesbian bar and meets all sorts of characters and couples. I'll leave the rest for you to discover on your own. Sweet, sensitive and humorous. Gotta get it, get them ALL!!!
I have enjoyed much of this writer's work and would give the bulk of what I read of hers five stars. This one falls for me for how easy it was to put down. I got tied up in other reading projects and would come back to this because it was in a format I could open on my phone. It took quite a while for me to be invested enough in the characters to push all other stories aside and finish this one. One thing that really perturbed me was how long it took for Iris and Vega to actually talk about her leaving the bar early. I expect more from Galli than the trope of two intelligent women not talking about the one thing that stands in the way of total surrender.
That said, there were so many times that the tropes the author pokes fun at made me laugh out loud. I shared some of the bits with multiple friends, always finding that my friends found the content to be as funny as I. There were some, however, that I found overdone. I don't know why she spent so much time picking on the couple who used the brother as the sperm donor. I don't see it as the norm for a couple to be so out of touch that they would not have considered possible consequences of a transaction with no legal basis. Things like that kept me from fully losing myself in the story.
As always, I enjoyed the fast pace and witty characters.
