I was looking for some information on unschooling and this book was perfect. It not only explained it in a good manner it then demonstrated it. Awesome resources also!

Sara McGrath lays out a short easy to read introduction to homeschooling as well as unschooling. There are tons of resources listed in it to get your children started in a more respectful way of learning. One that doesn't promote low esteem or constantly felt like they're under a microscope. There are many delightful examples of how unschooling works. Let's face it, compulsory schooling fails because it's a directly inproportional to self-motivated learning.
This easy to read book is surprisingly full of ideas and resources for the new unschooler. The evident kindness and thoughtfulness with which this small book is written makes it a pleasure to read. This book will make the rounds of my unschooling and homeschooling community, and i think i'll give it to grandparents and others who may want to understand more about what this unschooling idea is. Frankly this is one of the most helpful books i've read on the topic, and more than worth the price.
This book has many practical resources listed for use by unschoolers, or homeschoolers in general. It gives a clear picture of the homeschooling method of unschooling and is in fact one of the better books I have read on the subject. Like the author, I prefer to use terms such as "natural learning" rather than unschooling. The definition of unschooling has become increasingly unclear, especially as radical unschoolers have developed a dictatorial dogma that the movement insists unschoolers must follow. Much of it flies in the face of common sense and promotes an extremism that leads to unparenting, neglect, and harm to children. McGrath's book is not extreme. She seems to have a balanced approached to the unschooling lifestyle. However, I was turned off by the anti-teaching mentally, which is why I did not give it 5 stars. All in all, it is a very solid guide to unschooling.
